The OnePlus 5T has been officially unveiled during a special event in New York, and we've got everything you need to know about the new flagship phone right here.
The OnePlus 5T is the Chinese firm's sixth flagship smartphone, and as the name suggests it's more of an incremental upgrade over the OnePlus 5, rather than an entirely new device.
That said, there are a few big changes, the key one being a larger display which has reduced the size of the bezels on the front of the phone and shifted the fingerprint scanner to the back.
Cut to the chase
- What is it? A new flagship phone from OnePlus
- When is it out? November 16 launch, November 21 release
- What will it cost? Likely same as the OnePlus 5 at $479 (£449, around AU$630)
The OnePlus 5T launch event is still happening, and we'll be updating this article with all the details about the phone as they're announced on stage.
OnePlus 5T display
The OnePlus 5T comes with a 6.01-inch display with a full HD (1080 x 2160) resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio and 80.5% screen to body ratio.
It’s the biggest screen OnePlus has put on a phone, giving you more space for your games, movies and social media. The AMOLED panel means colors should be punchy, and it’s protected by Gorilla Glass 5.
OnePlus 5T design
With a bigger screen, the OnePlus 5T also has a bigger body, but it’s not that much bigger than the OnePlus 5 it’s replacing as the bezels above and below the display have been reduced in size.
It means you lose the physical home and navigation keys from the front of the handset – with controls moving on screen. Meanwhile the fingerprint scanner, which used to reside in the home button on the front of previous OnePlus phones, has been moved to the back on the 5T.

OnePlus 5T rumors and leaks
OnePlus 5T release date and price
- Confirmed: November 16 launch date
- Rumored: November 21 release date
- Likely to cost less than most flagships
- Expected to start at $479 (£449, AU$630) for the cheapest version
The OnePlus 5T launch is today, which means there's not long until you'll find out all the details about the firm's latest flagship smartphone.
The event kicks off at 8am PT, 11am ET, 4pm GMT in Brooklyn, New York City and it's being livestreamed around the world, which means you'll be able to follow along from home.
We also have a clear sign of how much the OnePlus 5T is going to cost, and it looks like there won't be a price jump from the launch of the OnePlus 5.
TechRadar has seen a document that shows the price of buying the OnePlus 5T through a business on O2's network in the UK.
The price listed is the same as it cost for the OnePlus 5, heavily suggesting it'll stay the same for consumers too. That's obviously only pricing information for the UK, but it would be strange for the company to then raise the price in other territories.
Those documents also suggest there will be a 64GB version of the phone, which will likely cost $479 (£449, AU$599) and a 128GB variant at $539 (£499, AU$699). That's some very good news if you were hoping the price of the phone wouldn't increase.
Further to our information, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has also alluded to a similar price for the new phone too.
OnePlus 5T design and screen
- Similar design to the OnePlus 5, but larger screen
- Rumored 6-inch display with an 18:9 ratio
- Possibly a 2160 x 1080 resolution
Rumors for the OnePlus 5T are starting to ramp up speed, but the most information we've seen so far has come from one source known to GizmoChina.
The site is confident in the anonymous source and the leak is quite extensive, suggesting the phone will come with a 2160 x 1080 resolution, 18:9 ratio 6-inch display.
That would make the OnePlus 5T look a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone X and LG V30 that we've already seen launch this year.
The render below is supplied by the same source and shows how the 5T has super thin bezels. The source can't currently confirm whether it will have curved screen edges or not and there's no sign of what the phone looks like from the rear.
It's also important to note that this render looks identical to the Oppo F5 that leaked previously, but the source is adamant this is the OnePlus 5T and that it will look the same as the phone from OnePlus's parent company Oppo.
Another leak, this time a benchmark listing, has also pointed to a 6-inch 2160 x 1080 screen.
And another image has also leaked out, this time a lower quality render showing the handset in black, sporting a seemingly identical design to the picture above.
And hang on... what have we here? Yet another rendering recently leaked out to the web (below), showing some shrunken down bezels and a fingerprint sensor around the back of the device.
Again the source is GizmoChina, so most of these leaks seem to be coming from the same place.
However, we've also now seen what appears to be a live photo of the phone, and it shows the same design, with slim bezels above and below the display.
Another leaked teaser was provided to Android Authority that shows a dark and gloomy image of the phone. You can tell it's a OnePlus device because of the Never Settle tagline on the screen, but it doesn't show much we didn't already know.
This further hammers home the rumors of a full-screen display and much slimmer bezels, but apart from that there's not much more revealed in this OnePlus 5T teaser.
Not one to be left out, prolific Twitter leaker @evleaks has also revealed the OnePlus 5T name and a shot of what appears to be the top half of the handset, complete with some slender looking bezels - potentially cutting the blank space above and below the space in half from the OnePlus 5.
OnePlus has also officially revealed that it will be keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack on the OnePlus 5T, prior to which a tweet from the company account had heavily hinted at the legacy tech sticking around, so you'll be able to use your current wired headsets with the phone.
OnePlus 5T camera
- New camera sensors rumored to be two 20MP sensors working together
- Upgraded Portrait mode has been teased by the CEO of OnePlus
A number of early leaks suggested there would be two 20MP sensors on the back of the OnePlus 5T, but more recently it's started looking like at least one of them will be 16MP.
The co-founder of OnePlus, Carl Pei, has also tweeted some images that look to be taken with the phone's rear camera.
You can see one below that likely shows the portrait mode on the OnePlus 5T while we have also seen Pei tease the camera in further shots and OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has done a similar thing too.
OnePlus 5T specs and battery
- Likely packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with lots of RAM
- Largely similar specs to what we saw on the OnePlus 5
- No wireless charging
There isn't an upgrade to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset found inside the OnePlus 5, so we can safely assume the company will decide to include that same setup with 6GB or 8GB of RAM inside the OnePlus 5T.
Our source that gave us the pricing information at the top of this page also suggests the phone will come in either 64GB or 128GB storage sizes. That likely means we won't see a 256GB variant.
All those specs are backed up by a major leak of details just a few days before the phone's official unveiling.
There's also no official word on whether the phone will come with microSD support, but it's not something OnePlus usually supports.
OnePlus may also upgrade the battery on the OnePlus 5T to power that new screen with an AnTuTu benchmark spotted by GizChina saying it be a 3,450mAh cell (compared to the 3,300mAh one in the OnePlus 5).
However, one thing the company definitely won't be doing is adding wireless charging support, as it's said it believes its wired Dash Charger is a superior option.
